Case Study

We recently had our furnace cleaned and tuned through our yearly CenterPoint Energy Plan. Since moving into our home 20 years ago, we’ve had our furnace checked yearly. Here are three things you can do to prolong your furnace’s lifespan:

  1. Change out the filter regularly, depending on the type of filter you have for your system it is monthly, quarterly or yearly.
  2. Have a yearly clean and tune by an HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) specialist.
  3. Clean your ductwork every 3-5 years.

The technician mentioned that our furnace filter was already quite dirty and should be changed soon. We had just replaced it, so he suggested it might be time for a ductwork cleaning. If your vents are dusty or your furnace filter gets dirty quickly, those are signs it’s time for a ductwork cleaning. Many HVAC companies offer a cleaning service for duct work.

Remember to take care of your furnace!
