If you own your own home and have paid off your mortgage, make sure you get a Satisfaction of Mortgage from your mortgage company. This satisfaction should be kept electronically and also keep a hard copy safely filed. You might be asked to provide these to close on the sale of your home if your original mortgage company didn’t record it at the county recorders office. You can also inquire with the county recorders office to check on the document recording. Either the mortgage company or the homeowner can get it recorded.
